Customer Success Story
Xtek, Inc.
Xtek is a company that specializes in engineer-to-order and manufacturing equipment for heavy-duty industrial applications, with a primary focus on precision-machined, heat-treated steel components.
Background
Serving a variety of industries including steel/aluminum mills, mineral processing, and power generation, Xtek is a global force in industrial manufacturing. However, managing extensive data became a challenge due to its distribution across multiple CAD platforms, some of which were obsolete. This led to the implementation of Bluestar PLM.
Xtek decided to modernize their ERP system by exploring various PLM systems, ultimately choosing Bluestar PLM due to that it is fully embedded inside D365 F&SCM (ERP), SolidWorks interface, and willingness to offer custom solutions tailored to Xtek’s unique needs.
Implementing Bluestar PLM proved to be a transformative step for Xtek. Not only did it provide a centralized platform for the effective management of CAD data, but it also enabled the seamless integration of four key areas– the quality group, reconditioning program, industrial engineering group, and design engineering team.
This system enabled the smooth flow of information and collaboration across departments, introducing efficient workflows for corrective actions (QMS) and engineering change requests (ECM). Consequently, this resulted in streamlined interdepartmental processes and better controlled shared documentation, proving to be a game-changer for Xtek’s operations.
A new module within Bluestar PLM was created with Xtek and the “After-sales Redesign and Repair Module” is now available as standard software for all customers. It allows the automatic generation of a service BOM out of SolidWorks, by creating parts and assemblies and storing them in Bluestar PLM enhancing overall efficiency. It is also possible to create a service BOM within Bluestar PLM without initially having a drawing or CAD model.
Results
Our CAD data was scattered across multiple locations, using multiple CAD platforms, dating back nearly half a century. With the implementation of Bluestar PLM, we were able to consolidate and manage this data more effectively.
– Mohamad Daher, Director of Engineering
The query function of Bluestar PLM is really easy to use, and now the same data is available to all engineering disciplines, as well as to the quality department, at the touch of a button. And it’s also linked to the ERP data.
