HighRes Biosolutions

Empowering lab automation manufacturing

HighRes Biosolutions, a leading lab automation company based in the United States, embarked on a transformative journey by aquiring Bluestar PLM with their Microsoft Dynamics 365 SCM ERP system. Faced with the challenge of disjointed systems and data silos, HighRes sought a solution that would not only bridge the gap between PLM and ERP but also enhance productivity and data quality across departments.

Close collaboration and global support

Before implementing Bluestar PLM, HighRes operated with two separate systems: their ERP and PLM, which created significant challenges in cross-functional visibility. Supply chain data and engineering information existed in silos, preventing seamless access to critical data like inventory details from the PLM perspective or engineering specifications from the supply chain side. As Ira Hoffman, CEO of HighRes, states:

“We wanted to create a single source of truth. Having access to supply chain information from the engineering perspective, and vice versa, was crucial to achieving our efficiency goals.”

After careful consideration, HighRes selected Bluestar PLM for its robust integration with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and its capacity to deliver more than just ERP-PLM connectivity. Bluestar’s native integration created a seamless user experience and significantly improved data accessibility for all ERP users. Ira Hoffman emphasized the benefits of this integration:

“The native integration made it a much more seamless experience for all our ERP users, making access to information significantly easier.”

The project involved close collaboration between HighRes and Bluestar teams in both the US and Europe. Bluestar’s ability to provide around-the-clock support ensured smooth transitions, especially during the critical go-live phase. Nicholas Bisciotti, Director of IT, praised the partnership:

“The collaboration with Bluestar has been excellent. Their global presence allowed us to leverage expertise from both the US and Europe, ensuring continuous and around the clock support during critical, transitional stages.”

High-quality data and efficient processes

By adopting Bluestar PLM, HighRes achieved real-time access to critical engineering and supply chain data within a unified system. The ability to replicate existing assemblies and start new projects from familiar BOM structures enables them to save significant engineering time.

Bluestar PLM drove improvements in data quality by setting clear standards and practices for annotating and classifying parts. This approach led to more structured processes, ensuring that every part is properly documented and categorized. In addition, the implementation prompted the company to improve their data quality, particularly during the migration process. HighRes took the opportunity to address data migration challenges, as legacy CAD data required careful cleanup and validation. The process was like peeling an onion—gradually uncovering and resolving issues layer by layer until the data quality met their standards.

The integration of Bluestar PLM and Microsoft Dynamics 365 created a more coherent software ecosystem, improving the overall process flow and data quality. Managing software releases, enhancements, and data quality became significantly more coherent with the unified Bluestar and Dynamics system, allowing for a streamlined and consistent approach to process management.

HighRes’ partnership with Bluestar PLM has not only improved operational efficiency but has also set the stage for future innovations and scalability. Niels Markussen, Director of Projects and Solutions at Bluestar, reflects on the collaboration:

“Our global setup allowed us to support HighRes around the clock, leveraging expertise from both Europe and the US. It’s about bringing engineering closer to business and growth.”

Nick Bisciotti shared his positive experience with Bluestar PLM:

“From my experience working with Bluestar PLM over the last three years, I would recommend the product to any manufacturing company running Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O that is interested in improved data quality, improved documentation, and end-to-end process flow improvements.”

The successful integration of Bluestar PLM has not only improved operational efficiency but has also set the stage for future innovations and scalability.
